She married Angelo Acocella March 13, 1956 in Italy. They came to the United States in 1979 and settled in Mt. Vernon. Maria is survived by her two sons Michele (Angela) and Pasquale (Angela), sister Josephine Guglielmo, brother Giovanni Miele, Also survived by three grandchildren Marie, Nicole and Angelo. Adinaro, Philomena L., 91 of St. Vincent’s Nursing Home in Cedar Grove, NJ and formerly of Mt Vernon, NY died on March 18, 2007. Philomena was born November 21, 1915 in Mt Vernon, NY to Joseph and Antoinette Adinaro. She is survived by her brothers Richard and Edward Adinaro, both of New Jersey; numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews. Predeceased by seven brothers and one sister. Philomena was a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at the Westchester Medical Center. During World War II, Philomena volunteered at EMS of Mt Vernon Citizens Defense Corp, Mt Vernon Hospital, Red Cross, and Visiting Nurse Services (Hospice Care). She was a Eucharistic minister at Our Lady of Victory Church. She was a member of CSEA/AFSCME. Visiting Thursday 2 – 4 & 7-9 pm at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 am Friday at Our Lady of Victory Church. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Arzonetti, Mary of Yonkers passed away peacefully on May 30, 2007. Mary was born September 6, 1906 in the Bronx to Rocco and Florence Graziano. She married Joseph Arzonetti in 1928 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Mt. Vernon. Mary is survived by her two daughters Phyllis (Edmond) Mulaire and Teresa (Antonio) Cocchiarella, brothers Michael and Gene Graziano. Also survived by seven grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. Mary was predeceased by her husband Joseph in 1981 as well as her three sisters and three brothers.
Visitation will be held on Saturday morning 8:30am at the funeral home. A mass of Christian burial will follow 10am at St. Ursula’s Church.

Atoa, Mercedes wife of Aristides Atoa and mother of Aristides Jr. and Albert left this world on Thursday, April 12 at the age of 96.
Born to Manolo and Estefania Velez on January 11, 1911 in Yauco, Puerto Rico, Mercedes was the third of four children. She and her older brother Miguel were quite close and at the age of 16, she joined him to live in New York City. It was there, while living in a boarding house in Spanish Harlem that she met and fell in love with Aristides Atoa. It was not long before they were married. Mercedes and Aristides soon moved to Washington Heights where they raised two sons and were active in the local church community. They were married for 55 years before he preceded her in death.
Left behind to celebrate Mercedes’ memory are her two sons Aristides Jr. and Albert, niece Dinorah Velez, nephew Michael Velez, daughter-in-law Daisy Atoa, and three grandchildren Jacqueline Atoa, Michelle Valmond and Aristides Atoa, III.
Family will receive friends Monday, April 16 from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 17 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

Aurisy, Carole Giordano of Mt. Vernon passed away after a brief illness on November 14 2007. Carole was born June 10, 1941 to Anton and Anne Keller. She is survived by her two daughters Lisa Cristal and her husband Al, Christine Giordano Fiorentino, her husband Corrado Fiorentino Jr. and their expected child, a sister Jacqueline LaCerra and two brothers Anton and William Keller. Barbara, James Anthony of Mt. Vernon passed away peacefully on June 2, 2007. James was born April 11, 1941 in Mt. Vernon to Constantine (Dino) and Pasqualina (Paladino) Barbara. James graduated Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Grammar School, Stepinac High School in 1959 and Iona College in 1963. James served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He is survived by his mother Pasqualina Barbara, four nieces and nephews and 7 great nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his father Constantine (Dino) and his brother Guy Barbara. Bevacqua , Clara “Addie” of Mount Vernon, NY, passed
away February 15, 2005. She was 98 years of age. Clara was born
September 3, 1906 to Antonio and Theresa Spaziante Addonizio
in Mount Vernon NY. Clara and her husband Jimmy Vee were always
the life of the party wherever they would go. Clara was loved
by all who knew her and she will truly be missed. Jimmy Vee
predeceased her on March 17, 1989. She is survived by her brother
Fred of Florida and many nieces and nephews.

Capone, Antoinette of Mt. Vernon passed away peacefully on February 14, 2007. Antoinette was born in the Bronx September 27, 1921 to Donato and Angela Senerchia. She married James Capone October 24, 1953. Antoinette gave her family many wonderful things. She was an avid reader and imbued in her children a deep love of books and libraries. She also had a keen intellect and sharp understanding of world politics. She was an excellent Italian cook whose fabulous meatballs remain unsurpassed! She gave a strong sense of her Italian culture to her children. She also excelled at crossword puzzles and was a dynamite dancer when she was young. She was a true individual and will be deeply missed and remembered well by her family. Antoinette is survived by three daughters Rosanne Capone, Giovanna (Janet) Capone and Lisa Gagliardi, two sons James and Donald, and a sister Kate Daniele. Caragine, Frank of Mt. Vernon past away peacefully on March 13, 2007. Frank was born November 12, 1912 in Palena Italy to Luigi and Maria Caragine. He married Margaret Martinelli November 27, 1937 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Mt. Vernon. Frank working career spanned sixty eight years including his last position as custodian for Blessed Sacrament Church and School in New Rochelle where he retired after twenty seven years of service in 1992. Frank was an active member of the Yonkers Senior Citizens and a daily communicant of various churches in Mt. Vernon and Bronxville. Frank is survived by his four sons Dr. Louis Caragine (Carol), Philip Caragine (Carol), Anthony Caragine (Maria Elena), Frank Caragine (Candy), a brother Carmine and ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his wife Margaret in 1991 and his four brothers Louis, Anthony, Joseph and Paul. Conner, Ralph Lionel loving husband, dad, brother, and Pop-pop went to his heavenly home surrounded by his family, Friday November 9th . An avid Mets fan and golfer Ralph’s memory is cherished by his wife Mary, daughter Christine, her husband Brian, grandson Shawn, son Kevin and his wife Sacha. Life long Westchester resident, one of eight children of Margaret and Walter Conner. Ralph shared a special bond with his twin sister, Barbara Briggs. Criscitiello, Theresa L. of Mt. Vernon, NY passed away on October 4, 2007 in Watertown, CT. She was born in the Bronx, NY on April 4, 1915 to Joseph and Maria (Muzzillo) Terracciano. Theresa was predeceased by her husband Emil in 2002. She is survived by her daughter Francine and her husband Bob Guarino of Watertown, CT and a son Michael and his wife Juanita Tiso of Gansevoort, NY; her brothers Carmen and his wife Frances Terry of Bronxville, NY and Joseph Terracciano of Jackson, NJ. Theresa also leaves behind several grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother Pat Terracciano and a sister Marguerite Thistleton. DeEttore Joseph of Mt. Vernon died peacefully on April 15, 2007. Joseph was born July 26, 1925 in Mt. Vernon to Louis and Ida DeEttore. He served in the United States Army during WWII. On October 26, 1950 Joseph married Dorothy Mongarella at St. Mary’s Church in Mt. Vernon. He worked for the United States Postal Service in New Rochelle from 1978 to 1990 and served as a volunteer fireman in Mt. Vernon since 1961. Joseph is survived by his wife Dorothy, two sons Joseph DeEttore Jr., Robert Louis DeEttore and his wife Jeane, daughter Diane Contegiacomo and her husband Dominic, two sisters Viola Sharpe and Ann Marie Rao. Also survived by four grandchildren Robert, Jodi, Dominic Jr. and Daria. He was also survived by nieces and nephews that will always remember him as the dearest uncle that anyone could ever want. DiDonato. He served in the United States Navy during WWII and
later worked as a foreman for Stern Metals in Mt. Vernon. Charles
married Jeanette Yevoli June 15, 1934 in Brooklyn. Mr. DiDonato
served as Past Commander of the Anthony T. Fava Post #1768 and
was an avid golfer. Charles was a loving father of John DiDonato
(Carol), Charles DiDonato (Marie) and Rose Doctor(Saul). Fond
brother of Dominic DeDonato, Theresa Petretti and John DeDonato.
Also survived by 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She is predeceased by one sister and three brothers. Rosa was a devout Catholic. Nonna was known as an extremely hard worker who was always on the move. Vernon Board of Education at the Franco School, retiring in 2001, doing clerical work for food services. Hugi, Catherine (Rena) , passed away February 17, 2007, after a short illness. She was born in Glasgow, Scotland on March 8, 1941 to Allan and Mae Henderson. Catherine came to America as a domestic. She met and married Frederick Hugi on July 29, 1963 in Freeport, NY and later moved to Westford, MA, Rawlston, NB, Clear Lake, TX and then to Mt Vernon, NY. Beloved wife of Fred, loving mother of Karen Mary Cowan and Mark Allan Hugi. Cherished daughter of Allan and Mae Henderson and dear sister to Allan Henderson of Gwent, Wales. Catherine worked as a cashier at Ark Drugs and Value Drugs. Services will be held at a later date. |
Introcaso, Dominick Anthony of Mt. Vernon passed away peacefully after a long illness caused by Alzheimer’s. Dominick was born April 26, 1928 in the Bronx to Charles and Rose Introcaso. Dominick served in the United States Navy in 1946 and was stationed at Hendon Naval Air Base in London where he met his wife Drucilla whom he married on September 25, 1947. They resided in the Bronx until 1978 when they moved to Pelham Manor until purchasing a retirement home in Ocean City, NJ in 1989. Dominick worked for 20 years for Ford Motor Company in Mahwah, NJ and another 15 years at All Boro metal Products in Mt. Kisco before retiring. A true handyman, Dominick excelled at all trades and was often found working on the homes of friends and family. Dominick is survived by his children, Gary of Rye Brook and Cynthia Lanza of Scarsdale. Also survived by five grandchildren and one great grandchild. Vernon Firefighter for 35 years and retired as a Fire Inspector on December 31, 1994. He was a very active member of the Italian Civic Association for over 50 years; he also was a member of the Holy Name Society at Our Lady of Victory Church. Frank J., 90, of Port St. Lucie FL,
passed away on Wednesday February 16th at home. Mr. Limiero
moved to Port St. Lucie in 1976 from Mount Vernon, NY where
he was a mechanic for the City of Mount Vernon until he retired.
He served his country in the US Air Force during WWII in the
European Theatre of Operations. He was an honorary member of
the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Holy Name Society
in Mount Vernon.
Frank is survived by his wife Margaret Limiero of Port St. Lucie,
his daughter Janet Perrone of Port St. Lucie, his son Frank
John Limiero of Mount Vernon, two grandsons James and Daniel
Perrone and his great granddaughter Brittany.

Carmella was the co owner of Spic & Span Dry Cleaners in Bronxville for many years. She was active with the Italian Civic Association, Rosary Altar Society at Our Lady of Victory Church and the Catholic Daughters of America. She is predeceased by her husband Frank who died on February 11, 1996. Monte, Joseph A. 64 passed away peacefully Sunday December 16, 2007 at Westchester Medical Center. He was born in the Bronx on June 29, 1943 to Sadie and Joseph Monte. Joseph graduated from Edison High School in Mt. Vernon. He is survived by his loving wife Barbara (Cimmino) Monte; his children Kendra (Paul) D’Emilia, Jeanette (Jason) Draper, and Joseph (Stacy) Monte; a brother Angelo (Marilyn) Monte; five loving grandchildren who were the apples of his eye, Joseph Sullivan, Daniel Draper, Jack D’Emilia, Joseph West and Michael Monte; his nephew Joseph (Gina); his nieces Alyssa, Brianna, Gina (Nicky), Teresa, and Angela; and his brothers –in–law Guy (Joan), Jimmy (Bonnie), Gary (Kathy), Rick (Cathie); and his mother in law Margaret (Peggy) Cimmino. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was employed as a mechanic for the Halcyon Company. He was also a member of Local Union 137. He was a remarkable man who touched many lives. He was the kindest, most generous, honest and helpful person to all and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. Mosca, Josephine Ciaffa age 102, died on Thursday morning at the Carolton nursing home in Fairfield, CT. She was born in the Bronx, NY on August 22, 1905, the last child of six of Anthony and Carmella (Mennona) Ciaffa. Her father had emigrated to the United States from Bissacchia, Italy in 1889, and was followed nine years later by his wife.
Educated in New York City public schools, Josephine was married in 1925 to Charles Calise, a policeman, and had a son Charles, before her husband died in 1928. In 1932, she married John Ralph Mosca, a court reporter in Mount Vernon, and had two children, John Jr. and Christine. John, Jr. died of cancer at the age of 8, in 1942, and John Sr. died of a stroke in 1949, leaving Mrs. Mosca a widow for the second time. Her older son Charles died in 1991.
To support herself, Mrs. Mosca worked in retail and had a substantial alterations business. At the age of 82, she convinced Mount Vernon Hospital to put aside their normal age restrictions and accept her as a volunteer. Ten years later, she had amassed more than 10,000 of volunteer work, much of it as a patient advocate, and was named at the age of 92 as the Hospital’s Volunteer of the Year, receiving a congratulatory note from President Clinton.
At the age of 96, when she could no longer live by herself, she moved to Fairfield, CT to live with her daughter, Christine, and attended the Grassmere Senior Center, where she celebrated her 100th birthday with a visit from First Selectman Ken Flatto and congratulatory letters from Governor Rell and President Bush. She also celebrated at a gala party under a tent at home, where she received several dozen friends and relatives, including nieces and nephews from as far away and Las Vegas and Phoenix. When told that Channel 12 Eyewitness News was coming to interview her about being 100, she replied, “Where’s my lipstick?” During the last 18 months, inability to get around with a walker required her hospitalization at the Carolton nursing home.
She is survived by her daughter Christine Mihalec and her husband John, grandchildren Sandra Brooks and her husband, Denny, of Weston, Paul Bonvini of Fairfield, and Sarah Mihalec of Glendale, CA, and great-granddaughter, Lucie Brooks.

Mosca, Raphele R. of Bronxville passed away peacefully on September 23, 2007. Raphele was born April 14, 1926 in Mt. Vernon to Sam and Josephine Mosca. “Mosca” as she was affectionately known was the operating room supervisor at St. John’s Riverside Hospital in Yonkers for over thirty five years. Retiring eleven years ago Rae spent those years enjoying her beloved family, wonderful friends and traveling the world. Anyone who met Rae never forgot her. Her honesty and directness always let you know where you stood in her book. In the last five years her nieces, nephews and great nieces were the highlight of her life. Rae is survived by her two brothers William and Robert. Predeceased by three sisters Christine Zambardino, Gloria Mosca, Dorothy Bianca and a brother Salvatore Mosca. Mosca, Salvatore Joseph died peacefully on July 28, 2007. A lifelong resident of Mount Vernon, Sal was born on April 27, 1927 in Mount Vernon to Fred and Catherine (Beningasa) Mosca. He served in the United States Army from 1945-1946. On June 25, 1950, Sal married Stella DiGregorio. Their marriage later ended in divorce. Sal was a musician who began studying piano at age 11 and later attended the New York College of Music. During a long career, Sal performed in many famous venues from jazz clubs to Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall and the Carnegie Recital Hall in New York City. He also performed in several European countries including France, Belgium and the Netherlands, as recently as January, 2007. From 1949 to 2005, Sal appeared on over 23 record releases. Collaborations included performances with Miles Davis, Max Roach, Lee Konitz, Warne Marsh, Billie Holiday and Sarah Vaughn. While his performances are notable, his main focus was on teaching, a vocation he maintained from the age of 15 until the time of his death. Sal is survived by his three children; Michael, (MVPD Ret), of Eastchester, Stephen, of Jacksonville Fl, and Kathryn, of Scarsdale. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; Joseph, Lisa and Kathryn Mosca; Anna, Michael, Alex and Nicholas Kowalczuk. Sal was predeceased by a sister, Dolores Mosca in 1993. Nasti, Salvatore George of Mt. Vernon past away peacefully on February 14, 2007. Salvatore was born February 22, 1926 in Mt. Vernon to Dominick and Anna Nasti. Salvatore served in the United States Army during WWII. He later worked for the United States Postal Service as a postal carrier in Mt. Vernon. He married Antoinetta Nardone March 2, 1950. Nullet, Edward J. of Bronxville, NY and Ft Lauderdale, Florida died of cardiac arrest on December 10th. He was born in NYC and was 77 years of age. He leaves behind his wife of 27 years Eleanor (Nigro) Nullet, and his daughter Pamela Nullet of Douglaston, NY. He was a veteran of WWII, a member of The Army Reserve and The American Legion. Ed was with the NYC Police Department for 30 years and retired as a NYC Homicide Detective. He continued his career in public service as Director of Disaster and Emergency Services for the County of Westchester for a period of 13 years.

Piro, Deacon Vincent of Mt. Vernon passed away peacefully on December 29, 2007.
Vincent was born June 3, 1914 in Mt. Vernon to James and Teresa Gelardo Piro. He married Katherine Gelardo in 1943 and worked at the Housing Authority for the City of Mt. Vernon until retiring in 1979. Vincent was one of the first thirteen deacons ordained in the United States in 1977. He served the community of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel for over twenty five years. He was also a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus. Vincent is survived by two daughters Theresa Bonser (Gerald), Clare Ferris(John), and a son, James Piro (Luann). Portanova, Angelo of Mt. Vernon passed away on December 9, 2007. He was born on October 23, 1920 in Guardia Lombardi, (Avellino) Italy to Pasquale and Carmela (Maiorano) Portanova. Angelo married Guiseppina Salierno on November 1, 1953 in Italy and moved to the United States in September 1954 settling in Mt. Vernon, NY. He served in the Italian Army and later became a member of the Italian Mounted Police (Carabiniere) for 12 years. He later owned and operated a Dry Cleaning business for 2 years in Naples, Italy. Angelo was a very hard working man when it came to providing for his family. He would work various occupations to any extent necessary. His last occupation was as a Maintenance Supervisor for the City of Mt. Vernon for 9 years. Angelo is survived by his wife Guiseppina; his children, Carmela and her husband Moshe Levy, Pasquale Portanova, Josephine and her husband Richard Berges and Beatrice and her husband Peter Albano; his grandchildren, Peter and Priscilla Albano and Danielle and Corinne Levy; and a brother Francesco Portanova of Argentina. Pountney-Dei, Alice Elizabeth of Mount Vernon passed away on March 1, 2007.
Alice was born to Anna Farmer-Duah and William Edward Pountney on June 22, 1950 in Cape Coast, Ghana. She attended Cape Coast University Hospital Nursing School. In 1971 she moved to West Germany to join her brother, a diplomat. She attended the Auslander Institute in Dortmund to learn the language and worked as a nurse at the city hospital. Later, she was admitted to the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz to study anesthesiology. But shortly after enrollment Alice left for the US, where she joined her future husband.
She earned her AAS at Bronx Community College. She went on to earn her BA and MA in nursing at the College of New Rochelle, receiving the distinction of membership into the Honor Society of Nursing.
Alice’s illustrious nursing career gave her the opportunity to share her kindness and warmth with all of the patients that she has cared for. She was Head Nurse at Shalom Nursing Home; Assistant Director of Nursing and later was promoted to Director of Nursing at Nathan Miller Nursing Care Center. She then went on to work at the Taylor Care Institute, where she managed the newly created Sub-Acute Unit and served as Assistant Nursing Care Coordinator. She completed her nursing career at Dumont Masonic Home as the Clinical Nurse Manager.
Alice is survived by her devoted husband, Edwin; loving children Alice Jr. and son-in-law Patrick, daughter Vanessa, son E.J and her beloved dog Poochie. She is also survived by her brother, Kwamena Assabill, sisters Cathy Duah-Abazinge, Dorothy Pountney, Julie Pountney, and Julie Marshall as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers William Pountney, Ernest Pountney and sister Elizabeth Pountney.

Ramundo,Eleanor A. of Mt. Vernon passed away peacefully on March 25, 2007. Eleanor was born in Harrison NY on May 8, 1918 to Rosario and Stephana DeVico. She married Fred D. Ramundo on May 20, 1945. For 62 years Eleanor has been active in Mt. Vernon with many religious and civic organizations including Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Rosary Alter Society, Columbiettes Mt. Vernon Chapter 410, VFW Post 596, Swinging Seniors at Sacred Heart Church and the Seniors of St. Ursula’s. Eleanor is survived by her son Frederick A. Ramundo (Janet) and her daughter Ann Marie Damiano (Angelo), six grandchildren and one great granddaughter. Predeceased by her husband Fred, son Peter, daughter in-law Mary Ann and seven brothers and sisters Louise Giannetti, Sabatino DeVico, Jennie Riccardi, Theresa Bruno, Rosario DeVico, Mary Tesoro and Lawrence DeVico.

Real, Helen a lifelong resident of Mt. Vernon passed away on December 17, 2007. Helen was born in Mt. Vernon on June 29, 1916 to Gustav and Mary (Poljak) Lellek. Helen was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Joseph Philips Post 596 and for years was the Top Buddy Poppy Seller for the VFW Memorial Day collection. She also served under three priests on the Alter Guild at Trinity Episcopal Church in Mt. Vernon. Ritacco,Pasquale (Patsy) A. of Mt. Vernon passed away on October 15, 2007. He was born in Mt. Vernon on March 5, 1920 to Luigi and Angelina (Genese) Ritacco. Patsy is survived by his wife Marie (nee Dentini) Ritacco whom he married on October 13, 1946; his children, Theresa (Pat) Manto, Patricia (Frank) Marallo, Janet (Gregory) Pille, Christine (Lawrence) Vitarello; five grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Also survived by a brother Joseph Ritacco and sisters Anna Squillante, Lucille Paruolo and Christina Ritacco. Patsy was predeceased by his sisters Esther Leone and Louise Pirone. Patsy was a proud American, he served his country during World War II under General Patton with the rank of Sergeant Major. Patsy was an avid bowler and loved the trotters. Rossetti, Gladys of Mt. Vernon passed away peacefully on March 1, 2007. Gladys was born in Mt. Vernon on July 11, 1925 to Daniel and Sophie Shelley. Gladys loved to knit, play bingo and took great pride and joy in spending time with her family. She is survived by four sons Jack Dorsey (Judy), Daniel Dorsey (Faith), James Dorsey (Joan) and Michael Rossetti (Carolyn) and one daughter Patricia Taylor, step-daughter Susan Rossetti. Also survived by fourteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Predeceased by her husband Mario Rossetti and her former husband John Dorsey. Russo, Louis J. “Lou” 90, longtime Mt. Vernon and Yonkers resident, died in West Palm Beach, Florida on November 10, 2007. He was born on December 19, 1916 in Mount Vernon, NY, to the late Giuseppe and Rosa (Justino) Russo.
Lou married Frances Marie Amoroso on April 24, 1938 at St. Joseph’s Church in New Rochelle. He was a self-employed painting contractor and past president of the Painting Contractors Association in Westchester. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Lou performed in many variety shows at Mt. Carmel Church in Mt. Vernon in the 1940’s and 1950’s, with a starring role in the musical comedy, “Charlie’s Aunt”. He moved to Yonkers in 1965, splitting his time between West Palm Beach, Florida, and Yonkers. His hobbies included golf, pinochle, karaoke and dancing the Peabody with his wife Frances. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his son, Louis and wife, Patti; daughter Carol and husband, Anthony Coschigano; 3 grandchildren Diane DelVecchio, Anthony and Rose Coschigano and Diana and Frederick Mayon; great-grandchildren Rocco, Carlo, Zaccari, Arthur and Nelson; a devoted sister Anna Grossi and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wife of 66 years,Frances, his sister, Rose Alfredo, and brothers, Michael, Anthony and John. Friends may visit the Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. 80 of Mount Vernon died suddenly in Westchester Medical Center.
Son of the late Nicholas and Anastasia Schevera, he was a police
officer in New York City for 28 years. A WWII veteran from 1943-1946,
Sam served honorably in the U.S. Navy as a pharmacist’s
mate second class on the LST 1035, and Korea as a pharmacist’s
mate in the Marine Division from 1950-1951. He was a devoted
husband to Alice for 48 years. Surviving are his wife, Alice;
daughter, Mary Alice Lando; son-in-law Carman Lando; son Nicholas;
brother, William and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased
by a brother and two sisters.

Speidell,Louis J. Jr. of Leland NC formally of Mt. Vernon, NY. He was born September 22, 1929. Louis served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He later followed in his father’s foot steps, Louis J. Speidell Sr., and became a policeman for the Mt. Vernon Police Department retiring after thirty six years in 1986. He married Rosemary Hallahan January 9, 1955 at St. Catherine’s Church in Pelham. Louis is survived by his son James Louis Speidell (Karen), two daughters Mary Frances Alexander (Michael) and Susan Perrotta, a sister Eileen Wright. Tucker, Carol B. made her transition on Saturday, January 20, 2007 at White Plains Hospital after a brief illness.
Carol was born on August 5, 1948 to Martha Tucker and Carl Tucker. She was raised in Mount Vernon, New York and graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1967. Carol received a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science with a minor in Marketing from Iona College in New Rochelle, New York.
Carol worked as a computer programmer for TIAA/CREFF for 35 years. She enjoyed traveling and cruising to the Caribbean throughout her life. After retiring, she fulfilled a long time dream to work with children and give back to her community. She became a teacher’s aide for the Mount Vernon City School District. In addition, Carol became a mentor for the Westchester County Office of Women and mentored a young girl for over two years.
She was also the recipient of the Frederick D. Patterson Award from the United Negro College Fund. In 2004, she received Outstanding Parents of Achievement in Hip Hop Culture from the City of Mount Vernon.

Valentine, Antoinette ("Nettie") of New Rochelle passed away at home with her family by her side after a long battle with cancer. Antoinette was born October 21, 1932 in Mt. Vernon to Quirino and Fortunata (Fava) Grimaldi. She was a graduate of St. Gabriel High School in 1950 and Mt. St. Vincent College in 1954. She married Mauro C. Valentine on July 7, 1956. Nettie was a passionate and dedicated educator for forty years. She worked for thirty years in the Mt. Vernon School district as an English teacher and was nominated for the Who's Who in education for her commitment to the academic achievement of the children of Mt. Vernon. Antoinette and her husband Mauro were very active with Kiwanis International. They worked together on both local and state levels. In 1977 they served as Governor and First Lady for the State of New York an d received the prestigious Hixson Award for their work with Kiwanis. She is survived by her loving children Marie C. Valentine of New Rochelle and her son Domenic J. Valentine of Cape Coral, Florida. Devoted grandchildren Jessica L., Robert M., Louis C and Brett Valentine. Predeceased by her husband Mauro, son Louis C. Valentine, sisters Josephine Iannucci, Angelina Cardillo and brother, Paschal Grimaldi. Veteri Madeline of Mt. Vernon passed away peacefully on Novemeber 20, 2007. Madeline was born in Mt. Vernon on January 17, 1914 to Filippo and Maria Quaranta. Madeline married Michael Veteri on June 14, 1936 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Mt. Vernon. Madeline and her husband Michael owned and operated Glenwood Dairy for forty years and were well known in Mt. Vernon. She enjoyed playing cards, gardening and bowling with her family and friends.
Madeline’s entire life was dedicated to caring for her family. She was a Devoted mother to Carole Tucci (Nicholas), Rosemary Michie (Gregory) and a son Michael Veteri (Virginia), loving grandmother to Danny, Christine, Gregory, Nicholas, John, Jade, Giovanna, Sophia and Michael. Great grandmother to Melissa, Gregory, Matthew, Alexandria, Andrew, Giulia, Caroline and Nicholas. Sister of Salvatore and Alfonso Quaranta. She was known as “Dear Aunt Mae” to her nieces and nephews and endeared by all who became part of her family. She was predeceased by her husband Michael, brother Joseph Quaranta and sisters Ann DiMarzo and Rose Vecchione. Mae was gentle and kind and will be forever loved and greatly missed by her family and friends. Visiting hours will be Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. Gilda is predeceased by her husband, Joseph in 1971.
