Obituary: Charles Casarella, of Mount Vernon, passed away on June 9, 2010 at the Hebrew Home in Valhalla.  Charles was born on April 21, 1916 in Dunmore, PA.  He was the youngest of nine children.  All of his eight siblings predeceased him.  Charles started working as a truck driver in Mt Vernon in 1938.  In September of 1942, he married Antoinette Gentile  and then went on to enlist in the US Army in October of that same year.  He served his country for three years where he specialized in Morse code. He landed in Normandy and marched onto Czechoslovakia earning five campaign medals.  When Charles returned from the service, he worked as a Teamster for Local 456 for 22 years.  He also worked as an asphalt operator.  His wife Antoinette died in 1998 after they celebrated 56 years of marriage. Charles, or Charlie as he was more commonly known, was well liked- especially at the Hebrew Home.  He was the president of the Resident Council and was awarded resident of the month.  Charlie was saluted for his friendly personality and his participation in various activities and programs. He enjoyed watching baseball, football and basketball.  He was loved and known by all.  Survived by his two sons Charles and his wife Dr. Mariann Casarella  & Sam and his wife Barbara Casarella and two grandsons Dan & Michael.  Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday 2-4 & 7-9 PM.  Mass of Christian burial will take place at Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church Monday 10AM.  Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
