| Services: Friends may visit the Yannantuono Funeral Home on Friday from 3 to 6PM. Funeral Services will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Mt. Vernon, on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 10 AM with Rev. Gilbert McKenzie officiating. Interment Private. |
| Obituary: Mrs. Allyne Whitlock of Mt. Vernon, NY died Saturday February 28, 2009 at Mt. Vernon Hospital. Mrs. Whitlock was born in Jacksonville, FL on February 8, 1911 to Mable and John Williams. Her parents migrated north to New York City in order to provide Allyne with the means to a better life. Upon completion of her college education at Hunter College and City College of New York Mrs. Whitlock worked for the State of New York in various capacities, and retired in 1975 from the Workers' Compensation Board in New York City. She was very active socially in earlier years including her membership in the Sigma Wives of Phi Beta Sigma fraternity, the American Bridge Association, many local bridge clubs, AARP, and her church, First Presbyterian Church of Mt. Vernon among others. She loved to cook and entertain, and traveled extensively with her husband and friends. She was known for her loving and generous nature, and will be missed and remembered fondly by all who knew and loved her . She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene E. Whitlock, Sr., and then her only son, Eugene E. Whitlock, Jr. in 2001. A devoted wife and mother, the light went out of her life with the deaths of these two pillars of her life. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Valerie Whitlock of Charlotte, NC; her five grandchildren, Reid Whitlock and wife, Raquel of Charlottesville, VA; Kyshia Whitlock of Tegucigalpa, Honduras; Pamela Whitlock Bell and husband, Karl of West Bloomfield, MI; Eugene E. Whitlock III of San Franciso, CA; and Meredith Whitlock Alstaz and husband, Bruce of Orange County, CA and her three great-grandchildren, Alexis Douglas, Kristina Bell, and Cameron Bell.The family of Allyne Whitlock wish to thank the staff of Sunrise Assisted Living, Dr. Christopher Adubor, and Thelma Canigan for their care and kindness toward Mrs. Whitlock. In lieu of flowers donations to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or the American Parkinson's Disease Association would be appreciated. |
