A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday morning at 10 AM at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Mt. Vernon. | Obituary: Mario A. Pastore, devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and vibrant member of his community died May 12, 2009 after a 2 year struggle with cancer. A life long resident of Mt. Vernon, NY, he was born in 1923, came of age in the Great Depression of the 1930s and served in the U.S. Air Force during from 1943 – 1946. Called to responsibility early in life, he selflessly and tirelessly made work an ally. A great provider for his family, he loved work, attacked it with a passion and welcomed new challenges. He was employed as an accountant and salesman by Sunoco for 37 years, and simultaneously, serviced his own clients in his accounting practice for over 50 years. He faithfully served Our Lady of Grace Parish as the parish accountant for 43 years. He counted St. Joseph’s, Holy Rosary, St. Bartholomew’s and Immaculate Conception among his clients. Blessed with a green thumb, he could turn any patch of dirt into a blooming, thriving and colorful splendor. Every summer, he harvested a bountiful crop of vegetables, with tomatoes and basil as staples. He was an avid sports enthusiast and loved playing and watching popular sports. Baseball, football and basketball of his youth gave way to playing tennis as an adult. He possessed legendary stamina and his energy rivaled opponents 20 years his junior. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 60 years, his 3 children, 4 grandchildren, 3 sisters and a brother. |
