Obituary:Leo “Vince” LaSelva of Mt. Vernon passed away on December 2, 2009. He was born in Torrington, CT on September 1, 1921 to Rosario and Marie LaSelva. Leo will be remembered always as an outstanding athlete, from being a star shortstop for Pelham High School to playing for the Bronx Bombers. He then turned to boxing, where he also shined as a true professional, trained under Stephen Acunto and became the number three contender for the World Welterweight Championship. Leo was a proud veteran of the Unites States Navy. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Hazel LaSelva; his children, Vinny LaSelva, Lonnie LaSelva, Cathy LaSelva, Donna (Nick) Panebianco and Leonard (Dawn) LaSelva; his 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Rosario and Kelly LaSelva and sisters Angie Scarano and Marie LaSelva. Leo is predeceased by 5 brothers and sisters. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 2 Jefferson Plaza Ste # 103, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 in memory of Leo LaSelva.
