| Obituary: Margaret “Muffin” Gleason Hamm, of New Fairfield, Ct. formerly of Mt. Vernon passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on August 11, 2009 after a courageous 5 year battle with metastatic breast cancer. She was born in the Bronx to James and Margaret Gleason. Muffin graduated The Ursuline School and attended Marymount College. She married Joseph Hamm on June 21, 1997 at Sts. Peter and Paul Church. Muffin was very active in the American Cancer Society and was on the Westchester County Board of Advisors and was extremely dedicated to breast cancer fundraising. Muffin loved being involved in the American Cancer Society’s annual Diamond Gala, serving on the Board and Chairing events. She was instrumental in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk which takes place every October, raising funds that made her the recipient of many awards given by the American Cancer Society. She was helpful in bringing the Relay For Life to her home town of Mount Vernon. ; She was truly one person who dedicated her life to making a difference. Her other love and passion was to entertain family and friends at our home on Candlewood Lake. Muffin is survived by her husband Joseph, her beloved dog Sabrina, father, James D. Gleason,20brother Thomas (Melissa) Gleason, sister Cathlin (Roberto) Boncardo, nieces and nephews Gabriella and Thomas Gleason, and Sofia Boncardo, sister-in-law Katherine Hamm, and predeceased by her mother Margaret. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday and Friday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. Mass of Christian Burial Saturday 10am at St. Pius X, Scarsdale NY.
