Friends may visit starting at 2 p.m. Private burial Wednesday at George Washington Memorial Cemetery in Paramus, NJ. In lieu of flowers family has requested donations honoring Doug, himself a renal transplant recipient, to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd Street, NY, NY 10016. |
| Obituary:Douglas Leroy Franklin of the Bronx and Mt. Pleasant, SC on January 9, 2009. Born on August 17, 1951 in the Bronx to Henry & Madeline Franklin. Doug is survived by his wife Mary Ellen (nee Waitzman), mother Madeline, brother Alphonso, mother-in-law Margaret and father-in-law Sidney Waitzman, many nieces and nephews, friends and extended family. Doug was a graduate of Rice HS and Hostos Community College. He worked in Radiology for over 30 years at several local hospitals including Albert Einstein, Montefiore, Lenox Hill, Memorial Sloan-Kettering, East River Medical Imaging and NY Methodist Hospital. Doug loved to travel to the Caribbean where he and Mary Ellen married in Nassau, Bahamas in 1995. Doug, an avid golfer, is famous for his hole-in-one at Galloping Hill Golf Course. A snappy dresser and a foodie before that term was commonly used, Doug knew the places to shop and eat throughout the greater NYC metro area. He had many friends, from the corner hot dog vendor to the top medical staff at the hospitals where he worked. |

| Douglas will forever remain in the hearts of many. His friendliness and sence of humor always drew people close.His free spirit always made him the life of the party. Marsha, Marion, Sandra, and Suzette all send our love and devotion.

| Although I had never actually met Doug, I feel as if I know so much about him. I know that he was a caring, loving, appreciative man who truly loved his wife & family.
