| Obituary: Mercedes Duran of Mt. Vernon passed away on June 2, 2009. She was born in Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic on October 20, 1919. She was an extraordinary teacher in the Dominican Republic. When she and her family moved to New York she was a loving wife to her late husband Americo Duran Sr and loving mother to Jeury, Americo, Alfredo, and Belkys. She has 12 grandchildren and 20 great grand children.
