Services: Visitation will be Saturday & Sunday, December 13 & 14 from 2 -4 PM & 7 -9 PM at the funeral home. Mass of Christian burial will be Monday, December 15, 10 AM at St. Peter and Paul Church. Interment to follow at Kensico Cemetery
Obituary: John William Roland Sr (Jackie), age 79, died on December 10, 2008. Jackie was born on July 24, 1929 in Mt. Vernon to Paul & Rose Roland.  He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Korean War. He married Ruth Hamilton on August 13, 1955. Jackie was a firefighter for the city of Mount Vernon serving for 37 years, before retiring in 1994.    A member of the International Association of Fire Fighters, Mount Vernon Fire Fighters Association and the Westchester Fire Fighters Emerald Society.  Jackie will also be remembered for his love of horses.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ruth (Hamilton) and his sons, John Jr. (MVPD) and Donna of Eastchester, Walter (retired MVPD) and Colleen of Bronxville, Paul (MVPD) and Jeanine of Eastchester and his daughter Jo-Ann F. Barreiro and Christopher of Maryland.  His grandchildren, Melissa, John, Daniel, Morgan,20Tierney, Paul, Christopher, Joseph, Michael, Ariana and Daniel will forever remember their “Pop”. Also surviving is a brother Donald, a sister Joan and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his brothers Paul and Robert and sisters Ruth, Katherine, Dorothy and Marion and a daughter, Jo-Ann R. Roland.

I will remember John (Jackie) Roland forever because I Worked with him for 16 years at 211 Fourth Ave Engine 4 and he will be forever in my mind, God bless him and may he rest in the arms of the Lord. Mario Taccariello & Family
