| Obituary: Elsie Langella (nee, Pracella), beloved wife of Frank Langella, passed away on Thursday March 20, 2008 after three operations for cancer over the past 18 months and a courageous and valiant battle over the last 68 days in St. John's Riverside Hospital and Calvary Hospice Hospital. Elsie was born in White Plains on April 21, 1933 to Joseph and Rae (Marucci) Pracella. She attended local schools and upon graduation, she was employed at Grand Hair Stylist in Mt. Vernon as a receptionist and cashier until her marriage in 1955 when she became a great housewife and wonderful mother. Elsie loved to cook and was famous for her cheesecake. She loved the New York Yankees and was honored by them with a day at Yankee Stadium and a personal letter from Mr. George Steinbrenner on April 14, 1993, where she was also invited down into the tunnel and outside the Yankee locker room to be welcomed by Don Mattingly who presented her an autographed baseball, and also greeted by Bernie Williams and Bobby Murcer. She is survived by her loving family, husband Frank Langella, son Raymond Langella of Lighthouse Point, Florida, daughter Lisa Langella Sweeney and her husband James Sweeney of Brick Township, New Jersey and two grandchildren, Alexis and Timmy Sweeney. She is also survived by a brother Pat Pracella of Shrub Oak, New York, nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, aunts, cousins, and many, many beloved friends. She was an avid bowler for forty years and also conducted several tournaments. She also belonged to a small group of local friends who play Mahjongg once a week for thirty years. She will be missed by all her friends from above. But most of all, she will be missed for the caring, love, affection and consideration she gave to her family and said, above friends. |
