Elena was born June 10, 1923 in Santiago Chile. She moved to the United States in 1955 with her son Oscar Alber Sanchez. Elena became an American citizen in 1963. She worked as a seamstress in the I.L.G.W.U. Elena is survived by her son Oscar Sanchez (Janice), daughter Maria Lena Elefante (Tony), sister Grace Hauck and five grandchildren Terri, Steven, Robin, Valerie and Dean. Upon hearing of "Mami Elena's" passing, I was heartbroken. However, I was comforted knowing that "Mami" was called right after the feast of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel (July 16th), patron saint of Chile, and she will be laid to rest right before the feast of Saint James the Great (July 25th), patron saint of Santigo.
